James McCready: The Stunt Artist (Short Documentary)
By trade he’s a metal fabricator; in the industry, he’s a stuntman, stunt driver, rigger and pyrotechnician; as an artist, he paints, draws, sculpts, and performs. Like Yves Klein’s pigment is ultramarine blue, James Mcready’s is fire, and his body is the medium. From setting himself on fire for the first time in 2011 inside an art gallery, to now having torched himself over 500 times, it’s safe to say that James McCready is a walking, talking effigy for the arts. Whilst preparing for his latest performance-based video piece, McCready and his eclectic milieu give us insight into his artistic process, the reasoning to his madness and the meaning of his work. This is the story of a life in flames.
